Stonedust-Bucket in the News

Excerpt from “The Square Route”

Danvers Herald, June 30, 2005

We understand there was an overflow crowd at this year’s Stonedust-Bucket Memorial Bocce Tournament at George and Marian Saluto’s bocce court on June 4. There were so many gung-ho players that the bocce bosses gave up their chance to compete. This year’s winners were the team of Chris and Jack Sullivan of Danvers and Paul and Sharon McMahon of Montclair, Va. Paul is the brother of Bocce Babe Dee DeCoff (females can’t be big bosses, no comment). Evidently, these folks put Tiffany DeCoff out of the running.

Walking away with the prize for the closest-to-the-bottle male was George Saluto’s dad, Pa Saluto, who had an advantage – he’s been playing the game for a long time. The female winner in the same category was Jacqui McMahon, another DeCoff relative from Virginia. Bet those McMahons don’t get an invite to Danvers at this time next year.

Bocce Bosses, from left, Pa Saluto, Bob Young, Thom DeCoff, George Saluto with junior boss Thomas Saluto, 18 months, Norm St. Cyr, and Frank Lentine.
